Missio Dei

So we were thinking about mission last Sunday.

God’s mission.

God’s mission to redeem and reconcile. To deal with sin and brokenness. To call people and creation back into right relationship with Himself.

To make all things new.

We saw how God is a God on mission.

A missionary God.

The missio dei. The mission of God.

How God is always on mission.

The outward thrust of God’s activity towards the world.

We saw God’s mission in creation.

We saw God’s mission in His promises.

We saw God’s mission through His prophets.

We saw God’s mission through His Son.

We saw God’s mission through His Spirit.

We saw God’s mission through His people…the Church.

The missio dei. The mission of God.

And then this morning I read Acts 1:1.

Luke wrote: In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven…

Hear that?

“…about all that Jesus began to do and to teach…”

Did you miss it?

“Began.”

Luke’s gospel was about what Jesus BEGAN to do. The book of Acts is about all that Jesus continued to do through His Spirit being poured out upon His people.

Jesus’ mission didn’t finish with the book of Acts.

It goes on today.

God is still on mission.

God is still at work.

God’s Spirit still empowers and equips His people to partner with God in mission.

So question is: are you willing and ready to play your part in all that Jesus still wants to do? Are you looking for where God is at work around you? Are you listening to what God might be saying to you? Do you see the areas and places and people that God is calling you into?

Come on. Join in on God’s mission.
