Yesterday I was in the prayer room. I knelt by the tray of flour, and used my finger to trace out letters...words...confessing sin. Writing it...naming it...etching it like that....in some way makes it more real. And then, claiming the forgiveness that is mine...ours'...I used my hand to smooth the flour out...erasing the words. Gone. No more.
As I did this, I found myself in John 8 and the story of the woman brought before Jesus. Her accusers wanted to condemn her...stone her. And as Jesus listened he used his finger to write in the dust. No-one knows what he wrote....Scripture doesn't tell us. And then, after Jesus confronted her accusers, he spoke to her: "Where are they? Has no-one condemned you? Then neither do I. Go now and leave your life of sin."
Kneeling by the tray of flour, I found myself wondering if Jesus was doing something similar...writing in the dust....and then rubbing out...visually reminding her of the forgiveness that he could offer her...offering her hope…a break from her past….a clean start.
This simple act of tracing words in the flour, is a reminder not to wallow in your sin. But to repent..confess…And know His forgiveness…his newness…his release.
Remember this: "There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus".
