5 Reasons...
5 Reasons to Praise God
Okay, there are hundreds of reasons to praise God, but at the start of Psalm 103, David gives us 5!
In response to the opening refrain of: “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits”, David then reminds himself of just what some of those benefits are.
Why not have a read of Psalm 103:1-5 for yourself….
…but just for starters, here are the 5.
#1 – He forgives our sins. Yep, that’s right, God wipes the slate clean…forgives us for ignoring him; forgetting him, living as if he doesn’t matter. God deals with our guilt and shame and gives us a fresh start.
#2 – He heals our diseases. That certainly includes physical healing, but I don’t think is limited to that. I think part of the healing David has in mind is the restoration that comes from being made right with God. When we know forgiveness of sin, we begin to know the outworking of being made new…we begin to know his shalom in our lives.
#3 – He redeems our life. That’s David describing the joyful liberation that comes from serving the One, True King, after living to serve idols. Redemption is all about being set free to serve a new master.
#4 – He crowns us with love and compassion. As children of the King, God bestows His love and goodness and compassion upon us. We wear it like a crown….as princes and princesses of the Almighty King Jesus.
#5 – He satisfies our desires with good things. That sounds good doesn’t it?! All that our hearts crave find satisfaction in Jesus. We discover contentment and joy and delight in knowing Jesus.
Forgiveness, healing, redemption, knowing love, and being satisfied.
That’s not a bad list is it? Spend some time feasting your hearts on those things. And as David says, let all your inmost being take time to praise your Heavenly Father.
