Silent Saturday
We call it Silent Saturday.
Because God seemed silent.
The day before was the Friday we call Good, and the Sunday…
…had not yet arrived.
Jesus’ friends sat with their grief and mourned.
Silent Saturday.
But I wonder if was also the day of the first Silent Protest…
…a day that all of creation withdrew its sound in silent protest
at the death of its Creator.
I wonder if the birds refused to sing,
if the wind would not blow so that leaves would not rustle?
I wonder if there was no lap of waves on the sea,
if the mountain lions muted their roar?
I wonder if there was no rooster cry,
and if the crickets refused to play?
All of creation silently protesting.
I wonder.
