“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood. ”

We call it Silent Saturday.
Because God seemed silent.
The day before was the Friday we call Good, and the Sunday…
…had not yet arrived.
Sunday, we began our new series, The King and His Kingdom – over the next few months we will be journeying through the Sermon on the Mount.
I began by painting a picture of 2 kingdoms.
Interruptions.
We don’t like them.
Do we?
I don’t think so.
We don’t like our schedule being interrupted.
It’s funny what grabs you.
I was struck by some words recently – they were words from an Evening Prayer I was reading.
And they said (talking about evening):
This is the time
when others greet the morning
while we meet the night
This morning I found myself reflecting on singing praise.
I love to sing praise -
With my church family, gathered on a Sunday.
And by myself, in the solitude of my office.
God wants to grow us through trials.
He wants to deepen our faith…he wants to strengthen our trust…he wants to make us more like Jesus…as we go through the struggles and adversities of life.
There are things we can only learn through trials.
Every day is a transition - from yesterday into today.
Every day is another day in the journey.
We don’t know much about Perpetua.
We do know she lived around the turn of the 3rd century AD.
That she lived in Carthage – modern day Tunis, in Tunisia.
Small groups this week have looked at the rag-tag bunch of people Jesus called to be his first disciples…
…the new family of people that God was at work creating through Jesus.
And what a family it was!
