No Other Name
I love coming to Scripture and being reminded of simple truths.
I love it when Scripture speaks deeply to me; when I experience the sweetness of God’s Word; the goodness of it.
And I had one of those little moments this morning…
…listening to a message on John the Baptist,
and being reminded that John continually pointed to Jesus.
In short, John was about Jesus.
When challenged as to whether he was the Messiah…his answer was straight-forward: “No!” (John 1:20).
When asked directly who he was…his response was: “I am the voice of the one calling in the wilderness ‘Make straight the way for the Lord’” (John 1:23). In other words, John said his mission was simply about pointing others to Jesus!
And when Jesus came to him for baptism, John declared: “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). John knew that Jesus was the hope of the world…the one come to deal with sin and brokenness…the Only One…the One to whom he must point.
And in fact, John goes on to say a bit later: “He must become greater; I must become less” (John 3:30)
John the Baptist was all about Jesus.
Jesus…the Bread of Life.
Jesus…the light of the world.
Jesus…the resurrection and the life.
Jesus…the way, the truth and the life.
Jesus…the Great I AM.
Jesus…the visible image of the invisible God.
Jesus…the One through whom God was and is reconciling all things.
Jesus….that One.
Folks, be reminded today that there truly is no other name.
Folks, ask yourself today: ‘how am I pointing to Jesus?’
Folks, be encouraged today…Jesus is the Name.
The Only Name!
